Wangaratta - Bairnsdale (1 Day)
The next stop on your alpine adventure is Bairnsdale, but along the way consider stopping at Beechworth where you can walk through the courthouse that was the site of the 1800's trial of Bushranger Ned Kelly, as well as many other historical buildings (over 30 listed with the National Trust) and the Burke Museum named after the ill-fated explorer with its rich tapestry of aboriginal heritage, Goldfields history and even the death mask of Ned Kelly.

The Picturesque town of Bright, with the century old elm trees of Centenary Park, varied adventure sports and many wineries can also make a rewarding stop.
In the winter, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek provide snow sports while in the summer they become the playground of mountain bikes and hikers with excellent fly fishing at Falls Creek.

In the town of Omeo, historic buildings, the A.M. Pearson Historical Park and the Kozsciusko Lookout will be great draws for some, while four-wheel driving on the 17km stretch of the Knocker track or the trout fishing in the nearby Cobungra and Mitta Mitta rivers will suit others right down to the ground.

These are some of the great destinations to see and things to do while travelling between Wangaratta and Bairnsdale. Be sure to add them to your list of places to visit.
